Taipei 2023

From June 2 to June 4, 2023, Amnesty International Taiwan, in collaboration with Shinehouse Theatre, Taiwan 台灣曉劇場, presented five performances of the Mandarin version of May 35th in Taipei. The play, which explores the legacy of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, resonated deeply in democratic Taiwan, a stark contrast to the censorship in mainland China. In addition to the Mandarin performances, a special Cantonese reading was held to honor the play's Hong Kong origins.

The production highlighted Taiwan’s commitment to free expression and solidarity with those silenced across the border, creating a powerful tribute to the struggle for memory and truth.
